Components of a CCTV System
Using Items Around Your Home
Want to boost your home security without busting your budget? You may already have some key components of a CCTV system around your home.
DIY Components of a CCTV System
It can be simple to set up your own home surveillance with a few household items:
DVR. It’s not just for recording your favorite television shows! Many security systems use technology similar to a DVR. Simply connect a camera to a power adapter then to the DVR system. This will record whatever the camera sees. Then play it back on the camera or TV when you’re ready to view.
Webcams. Place external webcams around your home and connect them via Bluetooth or USB to the computer to record. Different software programs allow you to adjust camera settings, like motion detection, saving video files, and viewing your recordings.
Mobile Devices. If you have an old cell phone or tablet you can easily set up a new CCTV system. The device needs to be new enough to download apps and record video. You can mount the mobile device to the wall or prop it in the area you’d like to monitor. Use different camera lenses for a wide angle or panoramic view. Make sure the mobile CCTV device you use is connected to a power source since it will be running for as long as you’d like to monitor the area. There are several apps you can download to the device for recording and viewing the feed.
